Setting up mail in Apple Mail MacOS (English)

Adding an emailaccount on a MacOS device #

Step 1: Open the Mail app Open the Mail app on your Mac. #

You can do this via the Dock or by using Spotlight.

Step 2: Choose “Add account” #

Click “Add account” in the “Welcome to Mail” window.

Step 3: Choose “Other Mail Account” #

Select “Other Mail Account” and click “Continue.”

Step 4: Enter your account information #

Fill in the following information:

Full name: Your full name as you want it to appear in emails
Email address: Your email address
Password: Your email password
Click “Sign In.”

Step 5: Configure server settings #

If the account can’t be automatically configured, you’ll be asked to set up the server settings manually. Choose “IMAP” for the account type.

Enter the following information:

Incoming Mail Server: mail.example.com
Username: Your full email address
Password: Your email password
Click “Sign In.”

Step 6Configure server ports #

Select “Manual configuration” and click “Next.” Then go to the “Advanced” tab and enter the following information:

Incoming Server (IMAP): mail.example.com
Port: 993
Encrypted Connection: SSL

Outgoing Server (SMTP): mail.example.com
Port: 587
Encrypted Connection: STARTTLS

Click “Sign In.”

Step 7: Test the account settings #

Click “Verify Account Settings” to test if the account settings are correctly configured. If there are no issues, click “Create.”

Congratulations, you have now set up your IMAP email account in the standard Mail app on your Mac!
